The Gandhi Memorial Trust Scholarship presentation ceremony was held recently at the Olympia College Petaling Jaya premises for deserving students who have joined the Certificate in Executive Secretaryship and Certificate in Hotel Operations.

Dato' Mahadev Shankar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Gandhi Memorial Trust, presented the scholarships worth more than RM30,000.00 to Shobana Devi Wayapuri, Yong Kah Mun, Lim Sook Beng and Sharanjit Kaur for the Certificate in Executive Secretaryship. Ng Pay Yi, received a scholarship to pursue the Certificate in Hotel Operations.

In her essay of "Why I wish to become a Gandhi Memorial Scholar", Shobana said her goal in life was always to be a talented Executive Secretary in a well known company. "To achieve it, all I have to do is further my studies in a proper college accompanied by this scholarship from the Gandhi Memorial scholarship. Achieving the scholarship is just not another means to become a Gandhi Memorial Scholar but it is the recognition and pride of receiving such a scholarship that overwhelms me."

Dato' Mahadev Shankar, in his speech, spoke of his own experiences as a student and an intern. To the secretaries he reminded them to be ever conversant about their job and the role they have to play for their bosses and the organisation.

To the scholarship recipient of the Certificate in Hotel Operations, he gave valuable advise on how important it was to be good at the job, no matter what department one worked in.
